Mouat Celebrates Aboriginal Week!!

Mouat’s first Annual Aboriginal Film Festival took place on Wednesday October 18th and Thursday October 19th 2017. The featured film was titled, ‘Reel Injun’ which focused on the misrepresentation of Aboriginal people in Hollywood films over the past 100 years and how society’s perspectives have been informed through these influential films.

Leading up to the film festival there was a flurry of cultural activities including: carving on a yellow cedar reconciliation pole with local artist Yummo (Isadore) Charters, Coast Salish weaving with master weaver Frieda George, culinary delights from Sto:lo Bannock food truck, lacrosse legend from Squamish First Nation Sam Seward along with a wide variety of classroom assignments and activities with a focus on Aboriginal content. Mouat teachers demonstrated another example of their high standard of teaching by showing their dedication to weaving Indigenous perspectives into the classroom and their outstanding support of the Aboriginal program.
