New grad requirement for students around Indigenous perspectives

The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the First Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC), is implementing a new graduation requirement. 

On March 4, the Provincial Government announced that it is expected in the 2023-24 school year, this new requirement will take effect. Secondary students who are to graduate from B.C.’s K-12 education system will be required to complete Indigenous-focused coursework before they graduate. Students currently in Grade 10 would be the first group to complete this new requirement.

Students in Madame Sauve’s Communication orale 12class are in the middle of studying a narrative by Michel Tremblay. We've verbalized the dialogues using the specific accent and "joual" way of speaking, explored the social, cultural, and economic context of the story.

Highlights - Board Meeting - Mar. 8, 2022

The Abbotsford Board of Education regularly meets throughout the school year. Agendas and minutes from the public Board Meetings can be accessed through the District's Electronic School Board. Below is a summary of highlights from the meeting. To do our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and for everyone's safety, all public meetings of the Abbotsford Board of Education will be closed to the public and held virtually until further notice. The simple definition of a compass is a device that shows you which direction you need to go and can take you there without anyone else. While within this definition implies isolation, there is a certain level of dependance on a tool that will help guide the individual towards a direction that they are seeking.

Local School Calendar for 2022-2023

The Abbotsford Board of Education is required to create a calendar that meets the legislated requirements of the School Act, and the Abbotsford Teachers’ Union (ATU) Collective Agreement. The Board of Education is currently seeking public and employee feedback on the proposed calendar for the 2022-2023 school year. The proposed option meets the prescribed minimum hours of instruction that a board must offer for the 2022-2023 school year.

What is O2? Well besides the element for Oxygen, it is the name of our support program. It has a nicer ring to it than “intensive behaviour program”. We focus on supporting youth whose home and personal circumstances may be overwhelming, or causing issues with their academics, their abilities to self-regulate, and finding success at W.J Mouat.
