YPI Finals Crown Winner for 2018

On Wednesday, June 6th, grade 10 students at W.J. Mouat Secondary presented their final submissions for the Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) Project. YPI has positively engaged secondary school students across Canada and awarded millions of dollars to local social service charities and this year was no exception. For the fifth consecutive year Mouat Secondary participated in the YPI Program where grade 10 students working in teams research a social issue within our community and work to create an engaging and persuasive presentation focused on a local charity who they believe best able to tackle a social issue they are passionate about.

At Mouat YPI presentations are part of the Planning 10 and Learning and Living with Character curriculum where students build skills in empathy, compassion, creativity, collaboration and advocacy as they champion their chosen charity. This year’s winning team: Sonali Gaba, Tanvi Gauba, Jasleen Grewal and Amrit Jandu advocated on behalf of the Cyrus Center and were able to win a $5000 grant towards this deserving charity.
