Spotlight on Learning: Modern Languages

FRAL 12 Objective: Compare the roles that stories, and the oral tradition play in Francophone and First Peoples cultures

Students in FRAL12 worked with partners to research aboriginal and francophone tales. They analyzed and presented each with respect to how they transmit teachings, world view and traditions. Because it was very difficult to find North American First Peoples’ tales in French, students expanded their search to include Aboriginal peoples of all francophone countries. Although worlds apart, students found that many of the tales showed strong parallels in their teachings and world views, except for the relationship between humans and nature. In general, aboriginal tales placed a greater emphasis on nature as a realm filled with wisdom, while euro-centric tales stressed the dangers encountered in the wild.

The Cascade Classic is back again!

The senior girls basketball team hosted the Cascade Classic 2022 this past week at WJ Mouat and UFV.  This long-standing tournament is attended by 16 teams from across the province.  The Hawks played South Kamloops in the opening round but were defeated 53-34.  On Friday morning they played a barn burner against Salmon Arm and lost by 2 in the final seconds.  They had a great time playing in front of a gym full of their peers and appreciated all the cheering.

Many Mouat students and staff are actively participating in the tournament by scoring and timing, manning the gate and game directing.   The senior girls want to thank their teachers, peers and administration for supporting this tournament.  Together we are all a great TEAM!

A message from our neighbors

The strata council for Silkwood Estates located at 3075 Trethewey Street (on the South corner of Trethewey and Mouat) have indicated they have had ongoing issues related to parents and children using their property as a pick up location and students leaving litter on their property.  The following is a message from them:

We have observed various vehicles parking and waiting in our complex parking lot to pick up their children around 2:30 as well as students waiting on our grounds.  I have had several complaints from strata owners regarding the difficulty in maneuvering around these vehicles and the danger of accidents given the high volume and speed of vehicles on Trethewey.  I am also concerned because we have young children that play on our property lots and the extra vehicles cause visual obstacles that may pose a threat to the safety of our children.  I understand that organizing pick up of students is difficult next to Trethewey but might I suggest that you instruct the students and parents to arrange pick ups further west on Mouat to avoid Trethewey please (refer to site plan for proposed alternate parking)?

PAC Fundraising

Don’t forget to support your PAC (and our school’s arts, athletics, and clubs) with your empties, purchases from Cobs Bread, and a donation of your gently used clothing, shoes, stuffed animals, and linens.  We appreciate your support.
