Welcome to W.J. Mouat Secondary!

Over its 40+ year history, W.J. Mouat Secondary has grown from a brand new junior high with a population of 150 students and nine teachers, to Abbotsford's largest high school.  Each day when we open our doors, we welcome a strong, culturally rich, diverse student population, and as the only French Immerison high school in the district, we welcome students from across the city.

Built in 1973 and named after the then superintendent W. J. "Bill" Mouat, the school opened to a small group of eager grade eight and nine students. Since then, Mouat has transitioned to a secondary school with grades 8 through 12 and then, in the early 2000's to a 9-12 secondary.

With an expansion in 1988 that created science labs, art rooms and a theatre, and another expansion in 2002 that created an art wing, a practice gym and state of the art weight room, Mouat's students have excellent facilities to enrich their learning, spark their creativity and build their athletic prowess. A seismic upgrade project from 2007-2010 provided both infrastructure and surface improvements for the growing student population.

Mouat has been recognized provincially and throughout Canada for its Academic, Athletic, Fine Arts, Technology Education and Community Service achievements.  In June of 2010, staff and students began pursuing a Character Education initiative, one that would formalize what Mouat has believed in for years: that good character and citizenship are equally important to academics, arts, and athletics.  These beliefs now hang from the banners in our hallways.

As we continue to preparing students for life in the 21st century, students are encouraged to challenge themselves, to maintain a growth mindset and be a positive, contributing member of our school and community. While focusing on developing a strong sense of self-awareness and reflection as well as improving their communication, collaboration, creative, critical and reflective thinking, and increasing their social awareness and sense of responsibility, we believe our students graduate ready for the next step.
