The aim of this site is to provide students with relevant information on career/education planning, post-secondary education - including entrance/admission requirements, application deadlines,  scholarships and grants. (See links below) 

TRY - The Responsibility is Yours. While WJM counsellors are here to support and assist students with their growth and development, the ultimate responsibility lies with the students. That said, students are strongly encouraged to verify information by going directly to websites of each post-secondary institution and other sites listed on the WJM website. Students who require additional support and/or assistance can see their counsellor in the counselling centre (room 120) or Ms. Solgaard in the Career Centre (room 117).

Bulletin Board

Welcome WJ Mouat Grads! The bulletin board is a means of distributing pertinent information to grade 12 students. Please check this page on a regular basis.

Abbotsford Community Foundation Awards: 

Grade 12 students planning on pursuing post-secondary education are encouraged to visit the WJM Grad Microsoft Teams and watch the informational video on how to apply. The deadline to apply is Feb. 29, 2024 at 3pm. Students can apply for up to 10 awards. Please review the 2022 ACF Application Instructions for Students  There will be an information meeting in early February. See Mrs. Nyberg in the counselling centre if you have any further questions.

Pride Education Network Diversity Scholarship

Deadline: June 5

Award:  min. $300

Criteria:

• Applicants must be graduating from a British Columbia secondary school with a minimum B standing. They must be planning to attend a recognized, publicly funded Canadian post-secondary education institution.
• Applicants must be a member of their school’s GSA and have played a significant role in diversity initiatives in their school or local community.
• Applicants must have a demonstrated financial need.

Engineer & Geoscientists of BC

Criteria:

• Academic standing,
• Extracurricular activities,

The entrance scholarship is for students entering a 4-year undergraduate engineering (B.A.Sc., B.Eng., or similar) or earth science (B.Sc. or similar) program. The transfer scholarship is for students entering or currently enrolled in a engineering transfer program (engineering fundamentals, engineering certificate, or similar) with the intention of completing the remainder of an engineering degree at another institution.

MADD Canada Bursary Program

Criteria:  Canadian citizens who have themselves been severely injured or who have had a parent (or legal guardian) or sibling killed or severely injured as a result of an impaired driving crash and who are enrolled in a full-time, ministry-approved, post-secondary educational program for the upcoming academic year.

Be enrolled in an accredited college or university in British Columbia or Alberta.

*is dependent on a mechanical device for mobility or maintenance of body functions
*requires major continuing therapies OR
*have other significant special needs.

French as a Second Language Bursary (UBC)

BCGEU Scholarships - BC General Employee Union

BC School Sports Scholarship

Criteria:

1.  A personal letter in which the applicant self evaluates his/her personal musical and academic strengths as they apply to future studies and career plans (not necessarily in music). Include a list of all extra-curricular activities
2. A good quality MP3 or CD recording containing two (2) contrasting selections, with or without live or recorded accompaniment (max: 10 minutes)
3. Two (2) letters of recommendation with one written by the applicant’s current high school music teacher. The music teacher’s letter must include a statement that he/she has listened to the audition recording and is a current member of BCMEA

Standing Tall Award

Criteria: 
Awarded to youth who have faced adversity and have not only risen up against the odds, but are demonstrating a commitment to continue their education. This award is open to students who have faced challenges like poverty, health, family issues, personal loss and lack of support.
In addition:

1. You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident 
2. You must have been a resident in BC for at least six months
3. You must be a grade 12 student from one of 23 school districts in: Metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley, mid-Vancouver Island, southern Vancouver Island and Central Okanagan

Criteria: 
Secondary students completing their grade 12 year who will enter a recognized post secondary educational institution. Bursaries will be awarded on the basis of academic achievement and/or special needs. Preference will be given to students entering the fields of engineering, architecture, or building technology. Should there not be suitable applications received in these fields, students in other courses of study will be considered, however, all applicants MUST be dependents of school district employees in the school facilities area (i.e. Maintenance or Custodial).

Otter Farm & Home Co-operative Scholarship

Award: eight $1,000.00 scholarships

Criteria:
The applicant’s immediate family (parent/grandparent/guardians) must have been active members of Otter Co-op for more than one year and have purchased in excess of $2,000 during the previous year. 
The successful applicant will receive the scholarship funds on presentation of a letter of acceptance from the admissions office of the institution he or she will be attending. 

FRASER VALLEY INDO-CANADIAN BUSINESS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

Award: 10 scholarships valued at $1000 each

Criteria: Grade 12 student with a high academic standing and financial need who has demonstrated community involvement through volunteer work with local organizations.

Uggla Family Scholarship

10 scholarships awarded yearly, open to all faculties

Criteria:

The scholarships are awarded to students who face significant financial barriers to participation in post-secondary education. This may include students who identify as Indigenous, Black, or a person of colour, students living with disabilities, LGBTQIA2S+ students, and students of all gender identities. The intent of the Uggla Family Scholarship is to promote equity and remove historical and existing discrimination, including barriers to full participation in social, cultural, economic and political life.

Other eligibility criteria include:

Being admitted to SFU as a domestic applicant, including PR and refugee.
Demonstrated academic excellence and outstanding potential to be a future leader through personal achievements or contributions to their school or community.

BC Excellence Scholarships

   Minimum “B” average, no more than one "C+" (67% or above), and no marks lower than “C+” in courses that fulfill graduation requirements for Science 11 or 12, Math 11, and Social Studies 11 or 12.
2. Resume in the mandatory format.
3. Two reference letters, one from your community and one from your school.
4. A written statement, maximum 500 words (see the website for more details).

You must be nominated by your secondary school in order to apply for this scholarship. Kin Canada Bursary

Requirement: Create a short video (max. 2 minutes) highlighting your achievements and demonstrating your oral communication skills. 

Criteria: 

1. Have been recognized for accomplishments in a formal capacity (e.g. selected as a winner or participant of a science fair, patent application, conference presentation) or less formal capacity (e.g. founding a coding club, developing a course for kids, creating an interactive art installation
2. Have obtained, over the previous year of study, an academic average of 85% or higher
3. Be preparing to enroll in the fall following graduation or currently enrolled in the first year of post-secondary education (university or college) in the fields of science, technology, engineering, art and design, and mathematics (STEAM)

Beedie Luminaries Scholarship Program

*$10,000 CAD per year for a bachelor degree program OR

1. Be entrepreneurial-minded and plan to enroll in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math program at 20 partner universities across Canada
2. Meet at least two of the following criteria: Academic excellence, leadership , Financial need
3. Not planning a career as a medical practitioner

UBC Centennial Entrance Scholarships

TD Scholarships for Community Leadership

House of Commons- PAGE program

Award: Pages are paid $16,848 in 26 equal payments over a 12-month period. In addition, a sum of $1,200 is paid at the end of the employment period. Pages are expected to work a minimum of 15 hours per week during the period when the House is sitting. Flexibility for extended hours and for duty when the House is not sitting.

Our application process takes place annually in September/October. Shortlisted candidates are notified at least two weeks before their semi-final interview date.

There is no limit to the number of applicants from a single school.

Our committees review all applications and invite shortlisted candidates (semi-finalists) to attend online interviews. These interviews are an opportunity for semi-finalists to connect with one another, meet the local leaders who serve as our interviewers, and gain valuable interview experience.

After semi-final interviews, our committees invite outstanding semi-finalists to participate in our national interviews. Our committees also grant provincial & territorial awards ($2,000 each) and honour citations to semi-finalists who distinguish themselves at the semi-final level.

Student Transcript Service

This service allows students to view school marks and transcripts and send transcripts electronically to post -secondary institutions and/or employers.

This is a mandatory step for students who have or plan to apply to a post -secondary institution. Completion of the Student Transcript Service (formerly called PSI selection), allows the BC Ministry of education to forward your transcript to the institution you have applied to.

To register for STS you will need:

* Personal Education Number(PEN)

* Full legal name

* Date of birth

* Email address

Step 2:  Students must register for a BC Government account, a BCeID. Follow the system prompts and register for STS. Finally, log in to StudentTranscripts Service using the BCeID.

Step 5:  Click "Send Transcript"

Step 6:  Select the Post-secondary institution you are applying to (BC is the setting, but you can choose other provinces as well)

Step 7:  Click " move to list" using the top arrow

Step 8:  Click "go to next step"

Step 9:  Click "go to next step" again

Step 10:  Click "I have reviewed my order and course information"

Step 11:  Click "Add Order to Cart"

Step 12:  Click Submit  (or payment if required)  

From a student’s STS Dashboard, you can make post-secondary institution selections, view transcripts, view assessment results and send transcripts immediately.
