Spotlight on Learning:  Learning the Trade of being a Butcher

The Culinary Arts 11 program, and interested students from Foods 9, had Ullie Krack from Sumas Meats come in and demonstrate how to prepare a small pig into its primary cuts. Meat cutting is a component of the ITA (Youth Explore Trade Skills) program and having a professional butcher come in to demonstrate his trade enhanced the curriculum. Over the next few days, the Culinary Arts 11 students will break down the primary cuts into workable portions for specific, student researched recipes.

Courtyard Mural

hanks to the hard work of our Art Studio students under the guidance and artistry of Mr. Turner and Ms. White the beginning of the courtyard mural is taking shape.

And they walked into retirement

Soon to retire are Mrs. Esau and Mrs. Watts!! They were honoured Wednesday night by the Abbotsford  School District at the Retirement Dinner. Wishing you ladies a fabulous end of year in anticipation of a well-deserved retirement for tremendous service to kiddos and staff. We appreciate you so much and will certainly miss you.

Pride Month – the Work of our GSA Group

Six GSA members and Mrs. Nyberg participated in an online workshop last Friday on "The History and Future of Pride".  These students are to be commended for their leadership and dedication in advocating for the 2SLGBTQ+ community.  After the workshop the students brainstormed ideas for finally carrying out a school-wide Pride parade next June.

Its ALL our community

Mr. Fowler’s Block A Careers class has been giving back to the school community by spending time with Aspire students. The two classes have been busy learning new board games and gardening and cleaning up the art department courtyard for everyone to enjoy.

Congrats to Mrs. Lochbaum and family.

Neuroscience Workshop for Grade 11 and 12 Students:

Interested in Neuroscience?  The Networking in Neuroscience Workshop for high school students is available this summer.  The Neuroscience Club is a multi-disciplinary academic society at UBC aimed at educating, supporting causes, and providing opportunities related to Neuroscience.   Prior to attending UBC, the  club members realized that there weren’t as many opportunities to learn what an academic career in Neuroscience would be like (or even know what Neuroscience entails), as well as networking opportunities that occur in a university setting. To respond to this gap, the workshop aims to 1) provide a fun networking and open-house style workshop, and 2) provide insight into the Neuroscience and Psychology programs at UBC for keen students that are already thinking about what degrees they would like to pursue.  The event will take place on Saturday, August 6th from 12PM-3PM at the Great Hall in the AMS Nest (on the UBC Vancouver campus). The event fee is $12 to cover an AMS food gift card for lunch and miscellaneous materials, payable by the student.

Congrats to Canada’s Most Informed School

Congratulations to Mr. Gill, and crew for winning their 6th consecutive ChatterHigh Banner for being Canada’s most informed school.
