Spotlight on Learning:  Feed Back or Feed Forward

Drama, as one could guess, is an exploratory course where Mr. Billo’s does his best to facilitate students putting on minor and major productions.  Throughout the course, once performances start being presented, the question of how to give feedback to students comes to the fore front. Feedback is an integral part of learning and is also one of the curricular competencies throughout Drama 9-12. But why is the feedback important in drama, and how best to implement and structure it.

Spotlight on Learning:  Student Voice -  Self-Care Mondays

In May this year, six Grade 11 WJ Mouat students participated in a Mental Health Forum hosted by the Abbotsford School District. They were tasked with reviewing the YDI (Youth Development Index) survey results for WJ Mouat and to come up with an actionable plan to help improve student well-being and mental health at their school.

Today, government officials announced that September 19, 2022, would be recognized as a one-time federal holiday in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's funeral service.

As such, all Abbotsford School District schools and sites will be closed on Monday, September 19, 2022.

Spotlight on Learning:  Welcome to the 2022-23 school year!

It was very exciting to have each and every one of our students back in the building this year and even better to have a regular school start-up without the top priority of ensuring masks were on, hands were sanitized, and cohorts were maintained.

New this year, was our morning with our grade 9 class.  Our hope was that coming together without the worry of 1000 other students would alleviate some of the stress our new Hawks experience on their first day of high school. 

Spotlight on Learning:  Confidence or Content

Over the summer I, Mrs. Pollastretti, had the pleasure of reading some of the yearend/semester end reflections in one of our science courses.  The students were asked to reflect on the course with two driving questions  “what is more important confidence or content?” and “how do you use your gifts for good?”   

In response to “what is more important confidence or content?”, one student wrote:

(Abbotsford) — The provincial government is providing $60 million in one-time funding to school districts across the province to support families with back-to-school costs. Earlier this week, the B.C. government announced they are using funding from the Student and Family Affordability Fund toward back-to-school costs to assist families struggling with the rising cost of living due to inflation.

We look forward to welcoming students and staff to the 2022/2023 school year! Planning and preparing for students is well underway by our talented and passionate staff. We extend a warm welcome to our newest students, families and staff and wish you all the best in the Abbotsford School District as you start your next educational journey.
