Spotlight on Learning:  O2 (Oxygen) Anyone?

What is O2? Well besides the element for Oxygen, it is the name of our support program. It has a nicer ring to it than “intensive behaviour program”. We focus on supporting youth whose home and personal circumstances may be overwhelming, or causing issues with their academics, their abilities to self-regulate, and finding success at W.J Mouat.

Spotlight on Learning:  Art 9 – Loomis Face Proportions

In Art 9 students did a great job with their Hero Portraits. Students learned the Loomis face proportion theory to help scaffold their drawing skills. From top to bottom, we have artists Brooke, Anna, and Lillia. Ms. Roberts very proud of their hard work (see bottom of page)

Spotlight on Learning:  Virtual Reality – Thank You PAC

Shout out to our PAC for funding three new Oculus Quest 2 Virtual Reality headsets. District Scholarship students are using the VR headsets to walk through their Architectural Design projects. This gives students a chance to get a real life feel for their building designs enabling them to find deficiencies and redesign on the spot.   The use of VR in architecture is a powerful tool and a glimpse of the future for our students to experience. 

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to be a challenge we must constantly navigate, however, this past week we were able to safely return to in-person instruction for over 19,000 students. As we look forward to the opportunities in the weeks and months ahead, I must again extend a sincere thanks to our staff for getting us through the first part of this school year. What we continue to accomplish in British Columbia, and particularly here in Abbotsford, is truly amazing.

At the end of last week, I shared information around the delayed return to school for students and the implementation of additional health and safety measures. Since that time, more information has become available, and I would like to share an update with you.

Spotlight on Learning: Science 9 Gravity Car Event!

I hope this letter finds you healthy, safe and in the company of loved ones. On Wednesday, Minister of Education Jennifer Whiteside and Provincial Health Officer (PHO) Dr. Bonnie Henry held a joint news announcement regarding the delayed return to school for students for the remainder of the 2021/2022 school year. To allow schools to adapt to the impacts of the Omicron variant that is impacting our province, all K-12 students will return to school on Monday, January 10, 2022.
