It was a full house at the official inauguration of the newly elected Abbotsford Board of Education on Tuesday night, as seven trustees were sworn in and affirmed for the new term. Three new trustees - Rupi Kanda-Rajwan, Mike Rauch and Jared White - join incumbents Korky Neufeld, Stan Petersen, Preet Rai and Shirley Wilson. The Abbotsford Board of Education will serve from 2022 to 2026.
Many of our WJM students have been getting a head start in their careers by participating in the Abbotsford School District Career Programs. Students are not only getting early admission but are also taking advantage of tuition-free post-secondary education. The spotlight this week is on the trade programs in partnership with UFV Chilliwack Campus. Students will earn dual credits (high school and Industry) towards their high school diploma and in the trade.
Mr. Gibson’s French Immersion socials studies class recently finished up their 7 years’ war study and it concluded with a question: What was the most severe consequence for the people groups involved? Students needed to come up with a thesis and a defense of why they thought the consequence they chose was the most severe.
On Tuesday, October 18th, Ms. Esau with the assistance of Mr. Drummond took two Social Studies 10 classes to the Xa:ytem National Historic Site of Canada. The heritage value of Xa:ytem resides largely in the spiritual importance of the Transformer Stone and its association with the preservation of Stó:lō history, culture and spirituality. Xa:ytem is a testament to Stó:lō spirituality and to the survival and resilience of the Stó:lō nation.
Halloween is this upcoming Monday, October 31st, and can be a busy time for many families preparing for a night of trick or treating. We want to encourage families to remember to stay safe and respectful while celebrating this fun-filled evening!
October 5th is World Teachers' Day, and the Abbotsford School District is celebrating the 1,500+ innovative educators across the district who prepare and inspire our students for a lifetime of success.
Teachers are a cornerstone of quality education systems and play a key role in building inclusive and equitable societies. Today, we celebrate the teachers within our district and commend their dedication, passion and commitment to this profession.
