Spotlight on Learning: How to Survive in 2024?

Course: Français Langue 12

Driving Question: How can we strive to navigate in an ever changing, complex and technology reliant world? How to survive in 2023?

Part 1: With your partner, create an evaluation grid using descriptive language for each level of accomplishment to help you target the essential characteristics of the task at hand.

The Abbotsford School District is proud to announce the launch of a new and enriching resource on each of its school websites: dedicated school history pages that delve into the fascinating origins of our school’s names.

In 2023, the Abbotsford Police Department launched a contest inviting local Indigenous youth from our school district to design a shoulder flash that would represent their heritage, family, and community values. The initiative aimed to reflect the attributes they wished to see in their police force.

The response was positively overwhelming, with over 40 submissions of artwork received. On Truth and Reconciliation Day in 2023, these submissions were displayed in the AbbyPD lobby, where the public was invited to vote for their favorite design.

Spotlight on Learning: Calculus Bridge Project

Course: Calculus 12

Driving Question: To create a bridge structure by graphing and transforming functions and then to use their Calculus integration skills to calculate the area and volumes of their structures.

Respiratory illnesses tend to increase as we spend more time indoors. Common colds, the flu and COVID-19 spread through tiny droplets as people who are sick breathe, talk, cough or sneeze. When other people breathe in or touch these droplets and then their eyes, mouth or nose before washing their hands they may become sick.

Spotlight on Learning: Game Inquiry Project

Course: Computer Programming 11

Driving Question: Design and create an original game that showcases creativity, problem-solving, and effective game mechanics.

TEACHER DESCRIPTION and / or REFLECTION: This is one of the most enjoyed activities in the course. Students learn so much by applying their own game preferences with the knowledge they have accumulated throughout the course.
